Kenya Barris, celebrul creator al serialelor Black-ish, Grown-ish, Mixed-ish si #BlackAF, va regiza primul film de lungmetraj. MGM a achizitionat drepturile asupra acestuia, care va prezenta viata si cariera comediantului Richard Pryor.
Barris va scrie, produce si regiza noul film, fara titlu inca, care il are in centru pe unul dintre cei mai influenti comedianti ai tuturor timpurilor. De-a lungul carierei sale, Pryor a aparut in peste 50 de filme, serialele The Richard Pryor Show & Pryor’s Place, fiind si scenaristul unor productii precum Sanford and Sons. Printre numeroasele distinctii care i-au fost acordate, Richard Pryor a fost primul castigator al Premiului Mark Twain pentru Umor.
“The way Pryor did what he did — with truth and specificity that was somehow self-aware and self-deprecating, and said with an unmatched level of vulnerability — that was the power and impact of his work. Pryor had a voice that was distinctly his and, in many ways, comedy since then has been derivative of what he created. To me, this is a film about that voice, the journey that shaped it, and what it took for it to come to be,” a declarat Barris.
Filmul va fi produs de Khalabo Ink Society, alaturi de Tarnished Angel si Levantine Films. Adam Rosenberg si Renee Witt vor fi producatori executivi.
“Having had a front row seat to much of Richard’s life, I am excited that the mystery of his genius is finally going to be explored and Kenya Barris is the perfect person to do it. Richard and Kenya are creative brothers,” a marturisit Jennifer Lee Pryor, vaduva lui Richard Pryor.
