Dupa ce Printul Austriei este gasit mort, toate dovezile gasite de Inspectorul Lestrade (Eddie Marsan) conduc spre ipoteza sinuciderii. Dar Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) isi da seama ca printul a fost de fapt victima unui omor care face parte dintr-un puzzle extrem de complicat, realizat de Profesorul Moriarty (Jared Harris).
